As a child in Russia, Alla watched her grandmother, scarred by wartime malaria, battling different chronic and debilitating conditions. At ten, she gave her grandmother an insulin shot, as tough times meant family had to help with care. That act lit a spark to ease unseen pain, like women with lipedema endure.
That spark first led Alla to nursing. In 1988, she became a Nurse Practitioner in Russia, where nurses often worked like doctors ,managing care in hospitals with scarce resources. She saw lives unravel from lack of tools, fuelling her drive.
